Dental Implants
What are Dental Implants?
Missing teeth can take the joy out of many everyday things that you love, including speaking, smiling, and eating your favorite meals. If you are ready to rebuild your smile, our dentists include dental implants as a part of their treatment options. Dental implants are small titanium posts that are surgically embedded in the jawbone to replace lost tooth roots and provide unmatched support for dentures and crowns. Dental implants are unmatched in restoring missing teeth
Dental implants keep your restorations firmly in place as you chew, smile, and speak. Because of the biocompatible properties of titanium, the implant will naturally fuse with your jawbone in a process called osseointegration. In this way, the implant serves the important function of a tooth root, and can provide a lifetime of outstanding support.
Dental implants are a versatile option
Whether you are missing a single tooth or all teeth, dental implants can be an excellent solution. There are two general types of dental implants, each ideal for a particular dental condition.. Weiss can replace one missing tooth with an implant-supported crown. If you are missing two or more consecutive teeth, an implant-retained bridge can permanently fill the gap in your smile. If you are missing all the teeth on the top, bottom, or both dental arches, implant-supported dentures can offer a superior alternative to traditional removable dentures.
About the dental implant procedure
Placing implants requires two surgeries. During the first, your dentist will make a small incision at your gum line. Through this incision, he will insert the implant into the jawbone. Next, he will suture the gums closed. Over the next four to six months, the implant will become permanently fused to the bone. In the meantime, we can provide a temporary restoration. Once the fusion process is complete, you will undergo a second surgery in which abutment pieces are attached to the implants. Finally, when the gums have healed, you can receive your permanent restoration.
Benefits of Dental Implants
There are several reasons to consider dental implants:
- Dental implants provide support to restorations in a way that looks and feels natural.
- Dental implants allow patients to eat, speak, and laugh without worrying that their restorations will slip out of place.
- Unlike traditional methods of tooth replacement, dental implants can prevent the jawbone deterioration that follows tooth loss.
- With the proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime.
